Bum - Arrived in San Diego as a stowaway in the steamship Santa Rosa, and chose the city as his home. "Loved by everyone, owned by no one", Bum used to pay visits to restaurants in order to get his meals ("quality food"!), and when was young, fought another dog with disastrous results: lost a foreleg and part of his tail. Nevertheless, he went on being a friendly and happy dog, becoming so popular that the city proclamed him the Official Town Dog. When he died (on November 10, 1898), local children collected pennies to give him a proper funeral.
Next the statue of Bum sits a replica of Greyfriars Bobby, statue donated by Edinburgh, San Diego's sister city.
