John Plimmer (Fritz) - Plimmerborn in Shropshire, England in 1812, arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, with his first wife Eliza and three children, in 1841. From carpenter, builder, brick manufacturer, land speculator, importer, merchant and landlord to civic leader, he ended up being unofficially bestowed the title "Father of Wellington", in recognition of his contribution to the city of Wellington (nowadays, capital of New Zealand).

Statue of Plimmer @ Plmmer's Steps

Plimmer is remembered in many Wellington landmarks: Plimmer steps, with the oak tree and this statue of John Plimmer and his dog Fritz, Plimmer house on Boulcott St, the bell of the Inconstant which hangs in St Alban's church at Pauatahanui, and the settlement of Plimmerton.
