Obama Wins: Iowans Choose To Roll The Dice!

Greyound_sculpture_2
Barack Obama is on to New Hampshire with a win!

One more political post (for now) and then I'll go back to dog art. Arianna Huffington beautifully sums up last night's win for Obama and why all Americans should be proud of it.

I love this quote:

"Tonight voters decided that they didn't want to look back. They wanted to look into the future -- as if a country exhausted by the last seven years wanted to recapture its youth."

(Greyhound sculpture by Loet Vanderveen available at Sovereign Hound Gallery.)

이작가는 특히 하운드 종으로 작업을 하고 다른종류의 동물들의 작품도 많다.
Loet Vanderveen 작가외에도 여러작가가 있다.

Loet Vanderveen was born in Rotterdam, Holland. His home was very close to the zoo where during his early years, Loet spent a great deal of his time. It was during this period in life that he developed his love for animals. He escaped from occupied Holland and upon his arrival in England he was decorated for valor by Queen Wilhelmia. He served in the R.A.F. during the war. During the first eleven years following the war he lived in Zurich, London and New York working as a fashion designer. He was not satisfied with his profession and a meeting with Fong Chow, then curator of the Far Eastern Department of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, led to private ceramic studies with Fong for the next three years. He learned a great deal about Chinese glaze techniques and applying fine glazes to the correct forms. This knowledge eventually led to applying patinas to bronze animal forms.

Mr. Vanderveen left New York and built a mountain top house and studio 1,600 feet above the Pacific Ocean along California's remote Big Sur coastline. This environment was very conducive to Loet's creativity. Living in a remote area where there was an abundance of wildlife coupled with his love for animals prompted Loet to create ceramic animal forms. Striving for a more sophisticated and graceful image, he ventured into designing animals in bronze. These designs are enhanced by a rich palette of subtle patinas. These uniquely stylized interpretations are appreciated by distinguished worldwide collectors.

British-born Brian Arthur is a graduate of the Southport College of Arts with a major in sculpture and art history. Arthur began his career in the heart of the English pottery country of Staffordshire while he continued his studies at the Burslem School of Industrial Design. At the Chelsea Pottery in London, he worked with hand-thrown sculptures and ornamental designs and, when Chelsea opened a branch in the Bahamas, he moved to the islands where he helped train workers to produce pottery that was shipped to the finest stores in the United States. He worked in France and Italy for a time, then joined renowned Austrian sculptor Felix De Weldon in Washington, DC, to work on several major commemorative sculptures including the Iwo Jima and Truman Monuments.

Today, Brian Arthur resides in Lake Arrowhead, CA where he continues to produce his Living Series of naturalistic bronzes which are exemplified by artistic mastery, structural perfection and reverence for our vanishing natural world. Each limited edition bronze sculpture is hand signed and numbered by the artist and finished in one of his signature patinas. Arthur's work is owned by collectors around the world including many celebrities.
