'Clean up' call in Good Dog Campaign
Published Date:

Dog owners in Bradford are being urged to clean up after their pets as part of a campaign.
Bradford
Council's Good Dog Campaign, which has already proved a success in
Haworth, is being launched in the Holme Wood area to encourage owners
to take responsibility for their pets and ensure they are healthy and
do not pose a danger to residents.
All this week staff from the council's Dog Warden Service are reminding owners they face a £50 fine if caught allowing their dogs to foul or £1,000 if found guilty in court. They are also advising residents how to report stray dogs, dog fouling and excessive barking to the council.
Coun Anne Hawkesworth, executive member for environment and culture, said: "Dogs can bring a lot of pleasure to people's lives but it is important that they do not become a nuisance for other residents with fouling or excessive barking.
"The Good Dog Campaign en-courages people to take pride in their dogs, to look after them properly and clean up after them. It has been very successful in other areas and I am sure it will make a difference to Holme Wood."
The Neighbourhood Policing Team is giving out advice on dangerous dogs.
Sgt Shelton Newsham said: "By helping educate people about dogs I hope that owners will take a responsible attitude to their pets and ensure they don't become a nuisance to other people."
The RSPCA is offering free micro-chipping for dogs and cats, along with worming and flea treatments.
To report stray dogs, fouling or excessive barking residents can ring the council's environmental health hotline, 01274 434366. On dangerous dogs telephone police on 0845 6060606 for non-emergencies; 999 in emergencies only.
